Aga Khan Academy and University Master plan

February, 2009

I spent 6 months as a junior architect with Mashabane Rose Associates (MRA) in South Africa.

MRA’s work focuses primarily on museums and cultural heritage site projects (e.g. the Apartheid Museum, the Hector Pieterson Museum and the Freedom Parc), urban design schemes, as well as conservation and heritage consultancy.
Several of its proposals have been awarded first places in competitions.

The Aga Khan Academy and University Master plan at Dar-es-Salaam was a mayor competition that I’ve been desinging with one fellow architect, Gilbert Balinda, and under supervision of Jeremy Rose. Research of the local culture helped us to orient our design.  This design process brought us also to look after site and climate requirements; and to set out precise procedures for the analysis and roll out of the project. In this process, every aspect of a community life were also taken care of.
